ABOUT ME

I wish I could say that I was one of those people who ‘grew up surrounded by dogs’! Well, I didn’t! The fact was that both of my parents worked full-time, and every Christmas and Birthday at the very top of my ‘wishlist’, I would put A DOG! in capital letters. I never got my wish, but I was so desperate as a young girl for canine companionship that every weekend I would ‘borrow’ a yellow labrador called Jason from the local vicar and we would spend many happy hours in each others company.

It wasn’t long after Andre and I got married that I finally got my own dog! A very handsome Irish Setter called Seamus came to live with us. He was my introduction to the world of dogs. We went to obedience classes and then to ringcraft classes from where we ventured onto Exemption and Limited Shows. It was at a ringcraft class at Binley Woods Village Hall that I first met Mrs Margeurite Pearson of the Monksriding English Setters and it was Mrs Pearson who located the litter from which I got my very first English Setter – a beautiful blue boy by the name of Bolasett Barnacle Bill (Barney). Bred by Joanne Brelsforth, he was the first of a total of six English Setters that came into our lives , and lived with us and our two children, Lauren and Liam, over a number of years.

While the children were young, and we were in the process of building up our new Boarding Cattery, I found it quite difficult to get to as many shows as I would have liked. However, I achieved some success at Open and Championship Shows with the English Setters and they were the kindest natured, silliest, softest dogs to live with!

At a Championship Show one day, I saw the most beautiful orange and white Pointer bitch curled up asleep on the lap of Sue Wilkinson of the famous Hurwyn English Setters and Pointers, and it was then that I decided that one day I would have a Pointer!

My very first Pointer did in fact come from the Hurwyn Kennel, a very handsome orange/white dog who was to become Ch. Hurwyn Skuba Diver. A short while after Baxter came to live with us I joined Sue Wilkinson as a Partner in the Hurwyn affix and for the next 12 years or so I showed, judged and bred Pointers under the Hurwyn affix.

At the beginning of 2009 it was decided that I should have my own affix, and that is how the TENSHILLING POINTERS were started.......
